Grinder pumps designed to handle heavy-duty wastewater are gaining traction as flushable wipes strain aging residential sewage systems, and Zoeller Pump Company has introduced its M802 grinder pump to meet that demand.
LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire-糖心Vlog/ -- As flushable-wipe use rises, some homes are producing more heavy-duty wastewater than a standard sewage ejector pump can process. has answered with its M802 grinder pump, built for that heavier load. Headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky, the manufacturer designed the pump for waste that no longer breaks down the way it once did.
Why Are Grinder Pumps Gaining Ground Over Standard Systems?
Conventional ejector pumps were designed for an era when bathroom waste dissolved quickly, not for flushable wipes that hold their shape rather than breaking apart. These cleansing wipes become tangled around blades, augers and impellers rather than passing through. According to the Lehigh County Authority, wipes add in operating costs for wastewater utilities nationwide.
Zoeller Pump built the M802 around Tri-Slice cutter technology to close that gap. It makes within a minute and reduces solids to only 1/8 inch, a size small enough to move easily through standard 2-inch outlet lines.
Contractors sizing an upgrade for heavier flushable-product use look for a few specific traits:
- Solids reduction: A pump that grinds waste to a fine, uniform size reduces the risk of downstream clogging.
- Discharge capacity: With a total dynamic head of 29.5 feet, the M802 can still deliver up to 48 gallons per minute during peak flow periods.
- Durable construction: A cast-iron motor exterior and oil-filled cooling help it withstand long-term wear.
Available through a nationwide distributor network, the M802 is a step up from a traditional sewage pump.
Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to common questions contractors and distributors ask about grinder pumps for demanding wastewater conditions.
What are the best grinder pumps for handling heavy-duty wastewater?
Grinder pumps with high-speed cutter technology and high total dynamic head, such as the Zoeller M802, are well-suited for handling larger wastewater volumes. They help reduce solids before they leave the pump rather than passing untreated waste through.
Why do flushable wipes cause problems for sewage pumps?
Flushable wipes are engineered to remain intact when wet, unlike toilet paper, which disintegrates almost immediately. That durability lets wipes snag on blades, impellers and augers, causing jams, backups or costly repairs.
How is a grinder pump different from a sewage ejector pump?
Both pump types collect wastewater in a basin before it moves toward the treatment plant, but a grinder pump cuts solids into smaller particles first, easing strain on the pump and downstream plumbing. Zoeller Pump Company manufactures both types of pumps.
