XVIVO partnered with EU consortium ENT1DEP to animate the science behind a potential viral trigger for type 1 diabetes and the hope for prevention.
WETHERSFIELD, Conn., June 23, 2026 /PRNewswire-糖心Vlog/ -- XVIVO, a scientific animation studio specializing in the life sciences, today announces the release of a new educational animation produced in partnership with ENT1DEP, an EU-funded research consortium dedicated to the prevention of type 1 diabetes. The animation, titled "How viruses may cause type 1 diabetes. A hope for prevention," is now available to watch on the ENT1DEP website () and on YouTube ().
Type 1 diabetes is a serious autoimmune disease affecting nearly ten million people worldwide, a number projected to reach 15 million by 2040. While genetic factors contribute to the disease, they do not fully explain its rapid rise. ENT1DEP researchers have focused their attention on enteroviruses, a group of common viruses, as a potential environmental trigger.
The animation brings this science to life, illustrating how enteroviruses may infect the insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas, establish a persistent infection, and set off the immune response that gradually destroys those cells. It also highlights reasons for optimism, including antiviral treatments and enterovirus vaccine development.
The scientific script was developed by four internationally recognized experts: Professor Knut Dahl-J酶rgensen (Oslo University Hospital) in clinical diabetology; Professor Heikki Hy枚ty (Tampere University) in virology; Professor Roberto Mallone (Universit茅 Paris Cit茅 / INSERM) in immunology; and Professor Sarah Richardson (University of Exeter) in cell biology.
